Twist'N Flip Gymnastics was started in January
2005 by Ron and Jodi Barnes. I (Ron) have been
teaching gymnastics for over 10 years, and until opening
Twist'N Flip, I was working in large gyms where the
focus was on producing high level gymnasts, and
the recreational classes were a means toward that goal.
My gymnastics training as a coach was in this type of
environment where we were pushing the students very hard
to achieve the next skill and the next level. This
type of gymnastics training is fine for a very small
group of athletes who have the ability and desire to be
high level gymnasts. Based on this experience, I
see the sport of gymnastics from a different
perspective. I think that the sport of gymnastics
is a wonderful tool to teach children that fitness IS
FUN! So when we opened Twist'N Flip, our goal was
not to develop competitive gymnasts, but to offer a fun
environment where kids would be challenged while
learning fitness. We think the sport of gymnastics
has an immensely positive impact on the students who
participate in it, and that you don't need to be a
"super gymnast" to realize these benefits!
